More than life

June 28th, 2006 by curumim
"The Anthem of My Life" by Andrew Wong (inspired by More Than Life-Reuben Morgan)

Dear Lord Jesus, let this be the anthem of my life.
That I will love love You, more than anything, anyone, and even more than life itself.
Your grace is so abundant in my life; and Your mercies are new every morning.
The heavens will fade, and the earth disappear,

But Your Word and promises will persevere.
Most of all Lord Jesus...I thank You, for the scars that You carry.
Scars that are permanent. Scars that are ugly. Scars that represent your broken body.
Scars that constantly remind You of me...
Sometimes when I lose sight of You, I become unsure. Maybe at times, even afraid.
But stay close to me Lord Jesus,

Closer than my heartbeat,

Closer than the air I breathe.
And I will fear nothing.
You knew me, even when I was in my mother's womb.
Even when I was formless...You knew exactly how I would look, and You called me by name.
You loved me before I was born,

before I ever knew or accepted You,
before the foundations of the earth.
If I ever stray away from You, bring me back.
If I ever fall down, pick me up.
If I ever stumble into darkness, be my light.
In return, I have nothing to give You...

Only my imperfect love and devotion.
But then...that's all You've ever asked of me...
Thank you, Lord Jesus.

More Than Life by Reuban Morgan
Stand by everything You saidStand by the promises we madeLet go of everything I've doneI'll run into Your open armsAnd all I know

I love You more than lifeI love You more than life

Fall back on everything You've doneFall back on everlasting armsWhen all the world is swept awayYou are all the things I needYou're the air I breathe

How can it beYou were the one on the crossLifted for all our shame? How can it beThe scars in Your hands are for me?You are the king of all

Tutorial Cup!

June 27th, 2006 by curumim

Hey all, sorry i haven’t updated this blog in a while. been busy with uni work. lectures are becoming ridiculously hard. sigh…maybe i just need to work harder :)
Anyway, last Thursday we had our tutorial cup. What’s that u say?? Well, it’s the ultimate tournament that lasts for a few weeks here at Bond Uni. It’s so popular that soon everyone will be asking "World Cup?? What’s that??". Haha…as u can all see, i’m still sore from Australia losing to Italy. sigh…sucha tragedy…yet life goes on…
Oh yea, about the tutorial cup. It’s an inter-tutorial group competition held among first year med students. Last week, my group "The Kuldip-ians" (named after our tutor-Prof Kuldip Bedi; formerly known as "The Candy Canes") practically destroyed all other groups in the Tug-o-War competition. Woohoo!!And since I was the only med student with enough brains to bring a camera, I became the unofficial photographer for the event. Here are the pics of some of the groups:

P6220044 The Kuldip-ians; a small rag-tag band, but strong and dominating nonetheless. Our team is led by Stuart. We weren’t able to get a uniform in time for last week because Stuart’s friend passed away. But this week…we sure will.

P6220068 G1- This is the all-red, super united squad led by the small but bossy Jeanne. Although they lost to "the Kuldip-ians", they won overall due to team participation and costume. Bleh!

P6220055
Led by Lipi, the 2nd degree Tae Kwon Do black belt, they are called "Bling it on".

P6220061
Led by Anthony, this band call themselves the Pink Panthers.

P6220059 No idea what this team is called. Forgot liao…

P6220064 The Kuldip-ians showing how it should be done…

This Thursday, however, we’ll be playing a different game- Ultimate Relay. So, I’ll keep u guys posted on that.

Great weekend and all the best…

Hey everyone, just wanna say all the best to all my Sydney Uni friends who will have their exams this coming week and the next. I trust u guys studied hard during stuvac and I’m sure all of u will do exceedingly well. Don’t stress and have faith in God!
Well, I haven’t been blogging in a while, coz I’ve been busy with uni work. Assignments are piling up and I’m going for my first placement in an old folks home this wednesday :)
As some of you may know, last weekend I returned to Sydney for less than 48 hours, but it was worth it coz I met up with my wonderful family. It was really good coz it coincided with the time that Denise and Wai Choong were back in Sydney. Praise God for that! So here are some pics:

L-O-V-E

May 29th, 2006 by curumim

Dedicated to Pastor Sally…who taught me all about Jesus and guided me in my teenage years through thick and thin. Thank you so very much for putting up with me.

Hey all, how’s everyone doing? Well, I picked an interesting topic to talk about today. L-O-V-E. Haha…no, I’m not officially attached. So why talk about love? It may be because so many people around me seem to have caught the love bug. Also, since I’ve been single for quite a while now, my friends were starting to ask me why and encouraging me to get attached, here in Gold Coast. Haha! Some of them seem more worried than me even. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not the type that gives in easily to peer pressure, but currently every member of my ‘family’ (eg. Josh-illa etc.) is attached. And going out with them will seem really weird even as a group. Haha…but i guess i only gotta think about that when i get back to Sydney.

Well this blog entry is gonna just be about some of my personal ideas about what love is. So bear with me, and don’t flame me if you don’t agree. But do give me feedback on what you think. =)

Every so often, a boy/girl whispers into the ear of another the magic words…"i love u"! But does s/he really? "Till death do us part"…such bold words…yet how often do marriages end in divorce and couples break up?? Then there are those that believe someone loves them because the guy sends chocolates, flowers, and are "Oh, so charming/talented/romantic!". I don’t have anything against sending gifts, or being romantic/charming, but in my opinion, that doesn’t neccessarily mean someone loves u. Then there are others who genuinely believe that they love someone…but are often confused between love and like. It is possible to immediately like someone and most of the time you can’t really help ‘falling’ for someone, but i personally believe that love is different.

Love is not exactly something that just happens. Love is a choice. Lemme explain…yes, it is possible that someone may ’suddenly’ realise that they are in love, but this is usually after investing a significant amount of time, energy, resources, and faith in that relationship/friendship. The Bible says, "where your treasure is, your heart will be also". It is when you’ve actually sacrificed quite a bit for someone that you know you truly love him/her.

Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it     is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight     in evil, but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always perseveres. Love never fails…

                                                                                              1 Corinthians 13:4-8

Also, you don’t really know you love someone until you know one well enough…one’s weaknesses, idiosyncrasy, bad habits etc. And that’s why true love is a choice. Once you know the bad side of a person, are u still able to live with him/her? And btw, if u believe a person can ‘change later’, it’s not impossible, but you’re in for a tough time, coz research shows otherwise.

About love in general…u noe, sometimes loving someone means taking yourself out of the picture. You can’t force someone to love you back, and neither can you blame them if they don’t. My advice on the matter…don’t dwell on it. The longer you harbour feelings, the longer the healing process takes…and it may end up a long time before you move on.

As a guy, I do wanna point out one thing to all the girls reading this out there. On Sunday, instead of studying, I decided to watch Pride and Prejudice (BBC version) instead. keke…I must say it was pretty good…all 327 mins of it =) One thing I liked was that in the movie, it showed nice guys don’t always finish last. The main male lead, Mr Darcy (played by Colin Firth) is a social introvert and is portrayed as someone who’s often misunderstood. He represents all the guys out there who sometimes, may not say the most charming or flattering words, and have problems expressing themselves. However, most of the time, you’ll find that the less ‘flattering/flirty’ types are the ones that will stick by their girl when the going gets tough. The ones that flatter you with pretty words /pick-up-lines may seem so smooth…but just remember, they will prolly say the same thing to the next hot chic that walks by. The shy types may very well be so because he respects your opinion and doesn’t wanna give a bad impression.

And then there was the part in the movie where Mr Darcy privately settles the payment to Mr Wickham for the latter’s marriage to Elizabeth’s sister…just because he loved Elizabeth. But then you might say, guys like these don’t exist anymore. Well, my advice to girls out there…don’t just give yourself to any guy. All the Mr Darcys aren’t extinct yet! Have faith, and give them a chance…

But to everyone out there who’s waiting for your Mr Darcy or Elizabeth Bennet…I would like to introduce you to someone who loves you despite your weaknesses, shortcomings, wrongdoings, and current circumstances. He knows you in and out; every deed, spoken word, or thought. Despite this, he has chosen to love you and he promises…

I will never leave you nor forsake you…   - Hebrews 13:5

And to prove His love, He gave his life for you and I by hanging on a wooden cross. It is written that anyone who hangs on a tree is cursed. But he became a curse for us, so that we may live free from our sins, so that we may be saved and able to enjoy His love.

There is no greater love than this, than for a man to lay down his life for his friends.         -John 15:13

This man was flawless and without sin, yet he became poor so that we may be rich, became a curse so that we may be blessed, became separated from His father so that we may be called sons of God, and bore scars on his body so that we may be healed. He has your name forever carved on the palms of His hands in the form of piercings made from nails that held Him on that cross. His name is Jesus….and He is the embodiment of true love.

In the end, three things remain: faith, hope and love. The greatest of these is love - 1 Cor 13:4-8

Congrats Pris!!

This is gonna be a short post, coz I just remembered what I was supposed to blog about last night. Hahaha…no wonder I knew I had to blog about something but didn’t even have a title. I wanna say congratulations to my beloved sister, Lim Lim che che (Priscilla), on graduating in her law degree from the University of Sydney. As you can all clearly see, ’smartness’ runs in the family…lol. This is her second degree (law; arts was her first). Well Lim, may God continue to bless you and guide you in everything you do. =)

Ugh…can’t think of a title…haha!

Guess what people…i just received my new ANZ card. Woot! It’s specially for Bond students and it’s very pretty. It has this picture as the background for the card. Mainimage

Today, I wanna give a shout out to my family. Coz they are so loving…all of them. My parents read my blog often and the last time they even commented using pris’ account. Woot! Just wanna say that all of u are amazing and I am so blessed to be a ‘Wong’. =) Oh, and thanks to Josh n pris for sending me that parcel. Really really appreciate it!
As most of you know my computer finally arrived last week…but u won’t believe this…my speakers don’t work! Ugh…now I’m in a dilemma coz the place I bought it is pretty far away, and calling on-site warranty may take some time (will try it tomorrow). Sigh…I’m so tempted to just buy new speakers since cheap ones only cost about AUS$20. Imagine, I’ve had no music for the past 2 weeks. The silence is almost deafening!!
Oh and guess what else happened…I don’t think I’ve blogged about this yet, but I’ve moved from the ghettos of Bond Uni into pure luxury! woohooo!! Yea, my room looks like a hotel room, with an ensuite bathroom and all. Thanks mom and dad! Imagine, it’s so large I can actually do a backflip! But of course I won’t be doing that much…u wanna know why? Because I’m on the top floor of the building overlooking a great view of a beautiful lake and being the nice person that I am, I don’t wanna disturb the my neighbours below with ‘thumpping’ sounds. keke…But just to set the record straight, I’m not a brat like u all must be thinking, esp Ashley. haha! I moved because my neighbour at the place I used to stay parties quite a bit, and it often ends with puke on the bathroom floors and beer on the carpets. Also, they usually go on till about 1am, which is ridiculous.
Anyways, I gotta go now! so bye bye!

First day in medical school

May 15th, 2006 by curumim

Hi all! I’m back from medcamp and I officially started classes today. Before I say anything else, I wanna wish my cousin Mei Leng a very Happy 21st Birthday!! May God bless you and lead u in everything u do. And to my dear friend Ashley, all the best for your interview tomorrow. I’ve been praying for u and I’m sure everyone is too, so you’ll do great! :) Love u both heaps!

Well, medcamp was hosted by the medical students society at Springbrook over the weekend. It was great fun but I’m so glad its over. Haha! It was pretty crazy. For initiation into med school we had to drink this cup of really yucky ‘drink’ composed of onion juice, onion chunks, vinegar, mayonaise and other disgusting stuff! I literally threw up after my first gulp! Super gross!! And we had people drunk and boys going on nudie runs and all…lol…and just a coupla days back we were given a talk on how doctors were the leaders of tomorrow. Yea right…For me, I just had a few beers and that was it. Social drinking is fine…but getting wasted (killing all those brain cells!) and acting like an idiot is not cool!

There were good moments at camp though. I made good friends. My roomates were prolly the most ’sane’ of the lot and so we had really good conversations getting to know each other and all. And the best part is…a few of them are Christians. One of them actually has parents from Malaysia. Although he lived in Brisbane all his life, but its still good coz he’s a pretty strong Christian. He told me he was actually wondering if there were any other Christians in our course, so we became friends right away. Haha! Really really wanna thank God for that.

Then there was that really nice trip to the waterfall. I’m not exactly sure where Springbrook is but it was in some mountaineous rainforest area. The scenary was amazing, making up for the lousy cabins that we stayed in.

P5140055 P5140051

P5140054 A little rainbow at the base of the waterfall to remind me of God’s love and promises…

Today I was at the library and guess what I found…a bookmark with the footprints story on it. In my head I was thinking how true it was in my life. I mean, yea sure I’ve read it many time before, but how often do we as Christians remember it when we’re goin through tough times, rather than always complaining? Anyway here’s one version of it for those of u who never read it:

I Had a Dream

One night I had a dream
I was walking along the beach with my Lord.
Across the sky flashed scenes from my life.
For each scene I noticed two sets
of footprints in the sand,
one belonging to me
and the other to my Lord.
When the last scene of my life shot before me
I looked back at the footprints in the sand.
There was only on set of footprints.
I realized that this was at the lowest
and saddest times in my life.
This always bothered me
and I questioned the Lord
about my dilemma.
"Lord, you told me when I decided to follow You,
You would walk and talk with me all the way.
But I’m aware that during the most troublesome
times of my life there is only one set of footprints.
I don’t understand why, when I needed You most,
you leave me."
He whispered,  "My precious, precious child,
I love you and will never leave you
never, ever during your times of trial and testings.
When you saw only one set of footprints
It was then that I carried you."

First week at Bond

May 12th, 2006 by curumim

Woohoo! I’ve officially survived my first week at Bond Uni. Orientation week is over, and after medcamp this weekend, I’m all set and ready to study again. Haha! I’ve been bumming for too long, and if I don’t use my brain soon, it will turn to mush!!

I’ve officially made more friends and I actually like my tutorial group. Most of the people I’ve met so far are friendly and pretty helpful. However, I’m about the only Malaysian in my course. There is this other girl that was born in Malaysia, but then moved to Brisbane to live most of her life, so she’s quite aussie-fied. The closest to a Malaysian I’ve met so far was an indonesian who studied in Singapore and moved to Sydney 2 years ago. Oh, but there was this Brunei-an dude though, but he’s in another course. So the big question is……where are all the Malaysians??? I haven’t met a single one…not in my course or any other for that matter!! hmm…the funny thing is, there is a Malaysian society, so I guess I should be meeting some at the clubs and societies day next Friday.

Anyway, here are some pics I took before I left sydney and when I just arrived.

Haha!!! As u can all see from most of the pics…I’m so full af myself. keke…but this is my blog after all, so who else did u expect to see but me??? :P

Oh there’s one person I wanna thank - Allyson (too bad I don’t have her pic)!! I’m not sure if you’re ever gonna read this, but thanks so much for intro-ing me to your bro and for checking up on me every now and then. Really nice of you. Will chat with you soon yea…if I ever get my computer!

Well, take care people. My love and prayers to all of you! Bye bye!
